# Risk assessment and KYC

A prospective tDAO member would begin the journey by going through a risk assessment. During this assessment, the underwriting algorithm will calculate how much of a payout the member would receive if the protected event occurs. Furthermore, the member will undergo a “Know Your Customer” (KYC) process to ensure that there is in fact a real person being protected.
