# Swap Engine

Understand how the Swap Engine supports selling, swapping, and cross-chain transfers.

The Swap Engine is The Lifedao's shared infrastructure for exchanging and moving crypto across blockchain networks. It gives eligible products a simpler way to handle supported cross-chain activity.

### Cross-chain crypto is usually complicated

Crypto assets live on specific blockchain networks. For example, USDC on Ethereum differs from USDC on Arbitrum One. Your USDC may be on Ethereum, while you need it on Arbitrum One.

Without the Swap Engine, you may need to:

1. Find a bridge or swap platform.
2. Connect your sending and receiving wallets.
3. Bridge your crypto, swap it if needed, and approve each transaction.
4. Keep enough gas on each network.
5. Confirm that the asset arrives on the correct network.

Each step adds time, gas fees, and risk (beacause choosing the wrong network can also leave funds unavailable).

### One simpler route

The Swap Engine handles supported conversion and cross-chain steps so you do not need to coordinate separate wallets and platforms for every step.

### What it can support

The Swap Engine can support:

* Buying, selling, and swapping supported crypto.
* Moving supported crypto across compatible chains.
* Converting assets into the currency a product accepts.

### Products it can support

#### LifeWallet

* Uses the Swap Engine for cross-chain crypto activity.
* Buy, sell, and swap supported crypto without managing each supported route yourself.

#### Gold Vault

* Can use the Swap Engine for asset conversion.
* Converts supported deposits into PAX Gold (PAXG).
* Converts PAXG into an available output currency during withdrawal.
